These days most of my time is spent working on a project, which has been on the way since mid summer. It is beginning to look ok, and within a short time I will let you in on, what it is. It is a local event (not on the blog), and it is a totally new experience for me, so I am running a bit in circles from time to time, because something new or different than expected happens all the time.

On a trip from one of my many meetings I met Autumn! Until the day before yesterday it was summer, and even though it isn't cold yet, autumn has shown the colors. So I took a break in the park of a nursing home and took some photos.

Have a great weekend - go make a sandwith and step out in nature instead of eating lunch in a shopping mall. Food tastes so much better, when you sit in the forest!

Papir- eller stofservietter - Paper or Cotton Napkins

After a dinner last week, where my favorite persons had been here, I cleaned the table as usual, when they had gone.

There were a lot of paper napkins. All of us had used two each, one for the main course and one for the dessert, because when you take out the dishes from the first course, the napkin often goes with it. It becomes quite a lot of paper, which just is being thrown out.

Now I wasn't totally hooked upon spending a lot of money on an experiment with cotton napkins, but I found the solution i Ikea, where they have some quite nice tea towels for almost no money.

I bought a 'roll' of 4, and yesterday I cut and seamed them, and - voilá - I had 8 cotton napkins!

They are going to be launched next Sunday. I am excited to see the reaction, because the table setting becomes kind of  'finer' with the napkins, but it is no problem to put 8 small napkins into the next wash.

I will keep you updated!

Andersens jubilæum, altså for 11 år siden.

Actually you cannot see, how disgusting it is!

Last week I caught a glimse of myself in a shop mirror. I was nicely dressed, nice bag, my hair was fine, and I was carriyng my shopping tote over my shoulder. It is a good tote with long shoulder straps, so it is easy to carry, and it is black with embroidery of the paper clippings of Hans Christian Andersen.

Or should I say that it was a good tote! I became quite embarressed, when I saw, how worn and dirty it was. I hadn't noticed. Why bother about things, which work perfectly?!

But when I look at it with fresh eyes, I had to admit, that I had to have a new one. I tried to wash it first, but it didn't work. On the contrary!

So out to get a new one! It wasn't easy, but I found one, which can be carried over the shoulder, and also is created for my bicycle basket. That is quite fantastic.

Maybe I should mention, that I bought the old tote in 2005 in the week of H.C. Andersen's 200 years' anniversary - 11 years ago. So maybe it was time to get a new one!

Minimalisme er... - Minimalism is...

Bare for at nævne nogle få ting.

Og hvad giver det så?
  • Mere tid
  • Mere ro
  • Flere penge
  • Mere frihed
Rigtig god weekend!

Minimalism is
  • not a weapon to fight anyone, who loves their things
  • not to get rid of everything you own
  • not to live in a totally naked room
  • not that everything is white
  • not that you cannot be a messy person
  • not living like a monk
  • not being cheap
Minimalism is
  • when all your belongings give value
  • when you haven't any junk hidden away
  • to indulge yourself with the best things and experiences
  • to understand that minimalism is different from one person to another
  • to be able to find your things in no time, because everything has it's own space
  • to know what you have got
  • to know, wwhat hen you need to replace
  • to make yourself free from impulse shopping
  • to be able to clean your house in a very short time
  • to have time to take care of you things, and repair what can be repaired
Just to mention a few things.

And what's the benefits?
  • More time
  • More peace
  • More money
  • More freedom
  • More time for the ones we love and the important things, we want to do.
And who doesn't want that?
Have a great weekend!

Tid til et livs-check? - Time for a Life Check Up?

Hvem ser du i spejlet?
Who do you see in your mirror?

If you are lucky, you love your job. You have a good salary, nice colleagues, a nice company car og benefits. Other feel that they have an ok job, because you have to earn a comfortable living. That's is fine, too.

And then there are those, who want 'something else'! This can be a very difficult situation, because if you are going to act on 'something else', it means that you have to leave your comfort zone, and if you have family, they will feel the impact too. With the world looking as it does now, it is difficult to leave something, that is already working.

But maybe it is even harder not to. To spend your life doing something, which doesn't make you happy and excited.

But if a family member doesn't thrive, then the family doesn't either, and as a couple you have to be open talking about changes. Nothing in life stays unchanged, and adjustments must be made along the way.

Maybe a start with making small changes and adjustment can make space for thinking of new ways to go forwards.

But maybe big changes are necessary.
  • To find a job, even though it means that you cannot go on living on 2000 sqr feet, but have to move to something smaller and cheaper.
  • To work less hours a week, which could give a better balance during the day.
  • To be able to take more time off to spend with your kids, while they are small.
  • To start the education you have always wanted.
We cannot wait until things get better or is changing automatically. But they do anyway, even if we don't take action ourselves. So you can just as well take action yourself.

We cannot wait, until we 'just get passed this or that'. We are here now, and life cannot be postphoned, and life isn't just about work.

As we have heard a lot of times, it takes 10 years to master something new, and we live longer. So if you are 40 years old, you have approx. 50-60 years yet to live = time to learn mastering 5-6 new things! Isn't that a wild, wonderful thought.

Set off some time to 're-think' your life – maybe sit down with your parter and think 'out loud'.

Kettlebells og kvinder - Kettlebells and Women

Respekt!

Saturday I participated in a seminar called 'Irrisistable'. It is the on-line training program, I am following. As already told, I am starting to see and feel the changes now on my 5th month into it.

The trainer, Anna Bogdanova and her team had invited all of us to an event, and I don't think, that I ever have participated in anything, which has given me so much.

I participated in 4 different sections, and all the speakers were inspiring and fun, and I was 'high' from all the good input, when I came home.

My motivation got - if possible - a bigger boost, and it is great to be together with a lot of people in the same situations as yourself.

Thumbs up!

Automatisk minimalisme! - Automatic Minimalism!

My old Stelton coffee pot is 46 years old, and since I don't use an ordinary coffee pot (almost every other way to make coffee has entered my home) and since I haven't done this for many years, it had the function of watering can. Beautiful to look at, difficult to pour from! I have always wondered how to pour hot coffee out of the spout without pouring it all over guests and table!

Today, when I wanted to give my plants an extra sip of water in this heat, I thought that the pot was dripping more than usual. And it did, because it was leaking. I examined it, and all of a sudden I was standing with the spout in my hand! A bit surprising!

As I put it out in the bag for the container area we have for trash (things are sorted and dealt with in the manner it should be dealt with) I was thinking about what to use for watering plants now, and I came to the conclusion, that I have a lot of things to carry water in - and I have a long experince from the pot in how always to have a tea towel with me to wipe up waterdrips.

That is another way to minimize your stuff!

Have a great weekend :-)

2 hvide t-shirts

I haven't had time to make the in- and outlist made before now. I have had so many others things to do, because I am working on a project, which will take place in exactly one month, but I will come back to that later.

So the clean-out for the month is:

A knitted shawl - have never used it
A blue blouse - had become to short
2 white t-shirts
9 books
A pair of blue jeans and
A pair of black jeans.

Everything, except the white t-shirts have gone to the 2nd hand shop. The white t-shirts have been cut into rags for different kinds of dirty work.

The clothes - well, I don't know, if I want to write it, because I don't want to jinx it, but I am still exercising now in month 5, and it is beginning to show to a point, where some of my clothes look really wierd on me. My waist has become smaller, and my but is 'hanging' a bit higher! But it is really awesome, if you have to buy clothes, because your body 'shrinks'!

The in-list contains very practical things:

A safety razor
A thermo steel thermo mug
A steel thermo water bottle
2 mason jars for flour and sereal

All these things have been bought as replacements for things, which needed to go, because they were worn out or damaged. I have now chosen the same things made of better and more long lasting materials.

Nogle af mine favoritting - Some of my Favorite Things

With a buzy day ahead of me, I am just going to show you 3 of my everyday favorite things:

A good cup of coffee with milk (as said: coffee with milk is for persons, who don't really like coffee!)
Swiss Drops (peppermint with chocolate inside, yummi!) and
my silver heart, which is so worn, and which I finally have sent to the silversmith for repair.

Have a great day!

For evigt ung - Forever Young

To be open and curious

An acquaintance of mine who lives in the same building as I do, is 79 years old. A goodlooking, small lady. Her body is firm and strong. Her walk is energetic, and she is always working on a project. She is young! In body and mind! But she is a beautiful, old, young woman.

Her passion is to paint. She takes classes to learn more, and she paints practically every day. She has learned lots of different painting technicques, knows all about famous painters' history and every art museum miles around and even in other countries. She has made herself an active art student.

When I met her today, she was going to a family member to take care of the dog: ...”and then I get the chance to take a walk in the nice weater”. She is there for family and friends. I got to know her, when she out of blue air offered to take care of my budgie, Elvis, when I told, that we were going on a holiday. So I am also privileged with her care. She has a big social life – and a sweet husband.

I have friends, who since they were 25 years old, have been 'old' and grumpy, fighting against all and everybody in their surroundings, as if the world was against them personallly, and I have been thinking about that. All the happy, 'young' persons I know are committed and engaged in a lot of different things. Some are more extrovert than others, but that makes no difference. And ll the angry and grumpy ones (whom I love anyway!) are tired, despondently sitting at home in the sofa complaining.

This is a a very rough generalisation, I know, but with the people I know, the comparison is right.

Maybe the road to 'eternal youth' is to be committed and to get yourself  'out there'?

Købekontrol for august - Purchase control for August

I mit køkkenvindue - In my kitchen window

I have renamed the post to purchase control, which hopefully means, that I am becoming a more conscious consumer. I succeed a good deal of the time, because it has become a sport, and I am saving money as well as time, because I spend less time shopping.

This August has been quite a lot cheaper that August last year. Not included a dentistbill last August, because I don't include that in consuming, but a health expense = my maintenance! and that goes from a buffer sum.

But last year I spent a lot of money on cometics and other product in that category. I put my head somewhere else and let myself be talked into trying some kind of (quite icky) wraps, which should firm my skin! Don't ask what I was thinking about, but it was very expensive and worked up to 10 minutes after removing them. Maybe some of you have had better experience of that kind than I had
(if - please let me know), so I stopped it fast. It still cost me 300 US$/ 270 Euro. So much for control!

August this year has been cheaper when it comes to grocery shopping, and I really cannot explain why. But I have saved 120 US$/110 Euro. Maybe because I have been cooking at home almost every night, and I have used a lot of food from the freezer (see the post from Monday).

And even if the spendings in general are a lot lower, I have bought a few things for the house, which I will tell you about, when I have made the In and Out-list.

Brug det ubrugte - Use the Un-used

At bruge dem op.

Prøv at forenkle dine indkøb.

It was dark and raining (lots) yesterday, so I needed flowers

If you want to make your everyday life a bit simpler, it is a good idea to start with using your stuff. To use, what you have lying around. To find the things, which you have stored over time.

You can start with your kitchen. Look through your cabinets and see, what has expired (very often it is spices), flower, grains, pasta, rice. If it hasn't expired, then use it, before you buy anything new.

The freezer is often a good hideaway for a lot of good stuff - and old stuff. If you cannot recognize the frozen 'objects', they have probably been there for too long, and then they have to go. Use the rest, and maybe you have food for a whole week - or more.

And then you can start buying again - in a better way. You don't need 4 different kinds of pasta. Finish one bag at a time. You don't need different kinds of rice either. Try to simplify your grocery shopping. It gives space and better economy.

The bathroom could be the next place to examine. Toss everything old, and use the good stuff. I sometimes think about, how I can make my 'beauty-regime' simpler, and I am always on the hunt for better products. There are a lot of brands, which don't contain hormone as well as environmental disturbing ingrediences.

And why not buy these, when they are better for all of us.

Mode- og indretningsblade - Magazines, Interior and Fashion

No offence towards Vogue!

I don't know, what has happened, but I don't want to read magazines anymore! I used to love, when new editions of the glitted, fancy magazines were released, and I ran to buy them, no matter the price.

I haven't bought any in a long time, but when I went on holiday last month, I bought one. It was exactly like the one, I bought the previous year, also for a train trip. There were good advise about how to eat, how to look, how to tackle life crises, and how to decorate. Everything old news.

Have I been over fed? Because it is not, because I don't want to learn something new. I really want that.

But we all know, how to eat, if we want to be strong and healthy. If we follow the advises is a totally different matter.

We also know, how difficult it is to decorate a bathroom as described in the magazines, when you have a bathroom 20 tiles wide and 40 tiles long!

And fashion – well, is there anything to talk about? No new trends. Everything has already been done! Folks, sorry, but it has! I am so old, that I cannot find anything in the shops today, which I haven't already worn before. Sweaters with stripes, jeans in all versions, a bit bohemian, thight, wawy, I could go on. And we still choose, what we normally choose.

Now and again I go to the library and peek into the magazine stand. I don't read them anymore. Just skim! And I very often take a technical magazine about a subject I know nothing about, because it is a lot more fun.

I have never read anything about fly fishing before – with beautiful photos!

Have a great weekend!
