3 for 2's pris - 3 for the price of 2

Den gamle gryde - The old pot

and the new one, if anyone should be in any doubts.

One of my pots bobbled up in the bottom. I haven't experienced that before, but it was quite an old pot, so I guess that it was time for a new one.

So I went pot-hunting. It should be a stainless steel all-round pot, medium size without teflon or other suspicious stuff. That couldn't be so hard. Or at least that was what I thought.

When I finally decided for a specific pot, the shop guy showed me an offer. I could actually get 3 pots by paying only the forth part more than the price of my pot! And that is really tempting, because you get 'more' for your money.

But this 'more' is also something, that you don't need.

I already have the pots, I need, and I chose to buy the top quality pot, and even though the price was high compared to the offer, I still saved the extra forth of the amount to pay for the 3 pots - and I didn't become the owner of 2 pots, which aren't being used and just take up cabinet space.

So by choosing the 'expensive' solution I paid less and avoided taking home something, which wasn't necessary.

A good offer might not always be a good offer, if you look at it from all angles.

Før julemåneden tager magten - Before Christmas takes the Power

Now I am getting just as unbearable as all the Christmas advertisements - but only to prevent to get run over by the bustle of December.

Because one of my previous blog post made me think, that before Christmas you should start with a break. Start thinking about, how the ideal Christmas looks like in your head. And then think about how much or how little it looked like the Christmas last year. Find out, what can be done better.

You can also begin to go through the Christmas decorations and the ornaments. Get the box/the boxes and see, if anything should be replaced, repaired, if you have to buy new light bulbs etc. Going though the boxes you can also see, if you have left over paper, greeting cards and other things from last year. Then you have to invest less this year. Use what you have got.

If some of the decorations need replacements, then plan a family trip with sandwiches and hot cocoa in the thermo bottles later in the month to pick up things from nature, which can be made into Christmas decorations. It could be material for wreaths, which you can decorate, or beautiful branches. Smal children can easily join in on this.

Afterwards the decorations are easy to get rid of, in opposition to something which you have invested (a lot of) money in, and isn't 'in' next year. And there will be nothing left to take up space in the Christmas boxes for the next year.

Talk with everybody about, what they think are the ultimate best things about Christmas (apart from presents). Things they want to do more of this year and plan ahead to see, what is possible to do.

The things, which makes Christmas better, might not be something, which you have to buy.

Det er jul! ... - It is Christmas! Or...

Luckily, smallest favorite person doesn't care - for him it is still Autumn, and he made a table decoration

It's Christmas... Or isn't it?

I went down to our local mall, because I wanted to buy a small ghost, which I had seen earlier, for the smallest favorite person. And I couldn't find the Halloween stuff!

But I found the Christmans stuff!

I asked a nice shop girl, who was looking around with me, and we still couldn't find anything. So she called a colleague, who told, that it was all moved out in the marketplace, because the season was over, so they had to sell out!

AT THAT POINT THERE WERE 10 DAYS TO HALLOWEEN - AND CHRISTMAS IS ALREADY MARKETED!

Next round - before Christmas - is Black Friday, which like Halloween is just another 'tradition', which isn't Danish, but one the advertising industry has adopted.

What can we keep buying, which we haven't already got? I don't understand this! There are somebody, who is trying to make us believe, that we need more. When what we actually need is less and better!

Merry Christmas!

Min indendørs urtehave - My Indoor Herb Garden

Today is wait time, and tomorrow I will tell you, what we are waiting for!

So I will share my litte herb garden with you. Yesterday I felt like cooking Italian food, and the favorite family came to dinner, and they loved it.

It was lemon-thyme chicken with small tomatoes in cream sauce with a dash of basil. Served with fresh pasta, or course. Very good, if I may say so myself, and not much was left. It is also very easy to make. Simple and good.

So I had to buy fresh herbs, everything becomes so much better that way, and now they are in the pot together with my mint plant, which has grown like mad.

Tasker til en minimalist! - Bags for a Minimalist!

Rigtig god weekend!

Den 'fjollede' - The 'silly' one

Man går aldrig galt i byen ved at købe god mad! - Blåskimmel ost og lækre oliven
You never go wrong buying good feed! - Blue cheese and yummy olives

How does a minimalist reward herself/himself? Good question. Normally with a piece of chocolate! But I had actually promised myself a gift - a reward  for a 'mission accomplished' - and last Saturday was the day.

When I stood there with my reward in my hands, I felt, that I needed to think a bit more. So I didn't buy it, and that os one of two things, which I have noticed during this year:

I don't browse around anymore, and I don't miss it. I shop food and cleaning products, and if something breakes, I replace it - if I don't have anything, I can use instead. Boring you might think, but for me it is liberating.

Second - I think a lot, before I buying something, which will become an 'addition' to my belongings.

But I want a small black everyday bag. Right now I have a turquoise one with fringes, which I bought in Spain a couple a years ago, and I love it, but it looks a bit silly here in Autumn. It is a summer bag, but it works so well for me. It has the rigtht size, it has compartments inside (love compartments), and is so wonderful to touch. I actually considered having it colored, but that's stupid too, because then I don't have it next summer, when I don't want to 'do' black anymore.

I have 4 bags: An 11 year old Vuitton Noé black epi (it's my big bag, which can contain 'everything', and I will never part with it), a brown computer bag, the turquoise 'silly' one, and a party bag, which is a small vintage Mandarina Duck Tank bag.

On top of that I have 2 photo bags (a big one with room for lenses, a sandwich and my water bottle, and a small one for my camera only), a trolley and a suitcase.

These bags cover all my needs, so a new one will become an 'addition'.

But the turquoise one screams against the sky now with all the light going, and it tricks my color perception, so it will  probably become worse, when winter is here! So maybe - maybe I will buy the black bag anyway.

But I bought something... :-)
Have a great weekend!

Reklamefolk - STOP DET! - Advertisers - STOP IT!

What on earth are advertisers thinking of?

I have just bought eggs, and I buy organic eggs. In the 'package' was eggs in different colors, and Niels and Grethe, who owns the chickens, which are very well treated, have put in a small note telling all about the chickens and the eggs. All good!

But maybe we should save the romance a little, because I don't need a little 'nest with 5 eggs' - because now there are only 5 eggs and not 6 as usual, at more os less the same price. I have happy to know that the eggs are produced under nice conditions, but please spare me for the extra trash in my trash bin!

Isn't it time that we get our everyday groceries wrapped as little as possible? With as much environmental conscience as possible?

So what on earth is happening with the nest filling, which you have added to my eggs? Am I supposed to unwrap my eggs and burst out: "Aaaaawwwhhh! How sweet!".

Or did you just ship the class, where the teacher told about, that we already are producing way too much trash in the world? We don't need you to force more of that into our lives!

Story telling is fine, but if you really want to impress, then invent wrapping - if at all necessary - which doesn't give us more to toss, and when it is necessary then give us packaging, which can be disposed of with - if not with good conscience - then at least with better conscience.

Invent something like that, and then I will get impressed! And I will tell about it! But right now I don't know, if I should laugh or cry!

Make-up spild - Make-up Waste

So many people talk about waste. Food waste, waste of time, waste of money, waste of resources and so on. And with good reason! But there is also waste of make-up!

When you buy make-up - no matter what - you should never calculate the price by the kilo, because it is ridicolous, how expensive it is!

But you can do a lot for yourself to get the full use of, what you have bought. I have for a long time been cutting up my tubes, and there is really a lot contents left, which you can scrape out and put in a jar.

The Maybelline BB cream, which I am very pleased with, because it doesn't contain hormone- og environmental disturbing substances, was 'empty', until I cut it open. Now I have for at least 3 weeks of use.

Venne-support er uvurderlig! - Support from Friends is priceless!

Men måske næste gang.

Rigtig god weekend!

The day after - just disappeared! There were so many things to digest, mails, text messages and FB comments coming in. I had great support from friends - before, during and after.
Thank you so much! I cannot tell, how much I appreciate that!

And I must say that the audience was a good one. Great actually!

The whole thing was filmed, and I am going to look through it to see, what can become better, because you don't get any better, if you don't want to make it even better next time.

And no, sorry, the video is not of a technical quality to be published. Maybe next time. Because I have decided, that there will be a next time.

Have a great weekend!

When the smallest favorite person is here on a sleep-over, we find different things to do, which doesn't cost anything, but effort.

He always brings a backpack with toys, and I also have a box with toys. But very often it isn't being unpacked at all. He goes to the kitchen to find some wood spoons, takes the pillows from the sofa, looks for blankets in the closet, builds a castle, and becomes the knight fighting monsters and dragons! Though sometimes he is the villain! And sometimes we just lay down reading a pile of books.

A while ago we talked about, that seeds of different kinds can grow into plants. Smallest favorite person loves melons, so we decided to dry some melon seeds and plant them.  There was plant soil all over the kitchen, but it was so much fun. And now 12 days later a small plant has appeared.
I took a photo and sent it to the oldest favorite person, so smallest favorite person could see it. The answer came immediately: "Are there any melons?"

Well, miracles do not go that fast, but time with a 3½ year old miracle does. It is crazy, how much they learn at that age.

That's a true miracle!

When you are preparing an event like the one, I am preparing now, then it is all the small things, which are stealing the time. All the details. The things, which have to be corrected, because they didn't turn out as expected. But I will make it work. Right now I am 'paddling' around between a lot of people and things to be written.
So coffee is a good friend!

En dejlig, travl dag - A Wonderful Busy Day

Tidligt op. Træning. Frisør (ny frisure). Handle.
Dejlig dag. Så træt. Godnat.

Up early. Doing my gym. At the hairdresser (new hair do). Shop. Home to cook. Pick up smallest favorite person and spend a couple of hours with him, until his Mum came home. Back home and make the last finishes on the food (to bring to the party), and go to the party. Second eldest favorite person's birthday party.
Wonderful day. So tired. Goodnight.

Foredrag og film - A Talk and A Movie

I am so excited! The 13th of October I will give a talk and show a documentary movie about minimalism and consumerism.

The talk is called: "A Simpler Life: How To Do It", where I am talking about, how I have worked my way out of drowning in my excessive number of belongings and have started to live a simpler life - my way. I want to share my experiences with other, so that they might not get a clean out as difficult as mine was, and I want to tell, what it has meant for me to live with 'less'.

The movie is: "Minimalism - A Docomentary About the Important Things", which a lot of Americans know very well already, and it is made by and with Joshua Fields Millburn og Ryan Nicodemus, called The Minimalists, who had it all: Money, living busy lives, owning stuff, stuff, stuff. But they decided to do something about it. They wanted to live with less stuff and property - and with a lot more life quality. In the movie we also meet people, who each have found their own way to live a simple lif, and we will hear their inspiring stories, and we will also hear about minimalistic architecture, tiny-house living, fashion, environment, cosumer habits - and we will see the consequences of a comsumer culture, which has run wild.

I am really looking forward to this night, and I am so happy for all the help, I have received in this for me totally new thing, which I have stuck my nose into.

Unfortunately, this goes on locally, but you can see the event on here on FB, - but if you are here in Copenhagen, you are so welcome to join!

Bomulds-servietter og fødselsdag - Cotton Napkins and A Birthday

I går 'debuterede' mine stofservietter - næsten ubemærket!

Yesterday it was the 'debut' for my cotton napkins - and it went almost un-noticed! Only one person had seen it, when I mentioned it! Quite surpricing, but everybody liked it. Including me. I ironed half of them, but I don't think, that it is necessary. And I think, that it is something, which has come to stay.

Today it is the birthday of the second eldest favorite person. We are totally party-minded, when it is somebody's birthday, and those days are starting with breakfast together - no matter if it is a work day or a day off. If it is a work day, you just have to get up at bit earlier!

The rules for birthdays are, that the birthday person doesn't do or pay for anything. It is a total free day, and in the evening we go out for dinner, and the guests pay the bills. We choose a child friendly place with good food, so everybody can come.

It is going to be a good day! - hopefully for you, too!
